This crash course in Inkscape will be based on version 1.2 Release Candidate, which is easily accessible off of Inkscape’s official site. As of writing, I believe that Inkscape currently has the capacity to compete with any vector program in the market. Blender 3D is a true diamond in the open-source movement. But I decided to invest some time in learning Inkscape due to the hope that Inkscape will achieve the same level of polish and usefulness as Blender 3D. This tutorial is designed to quickly teach you the basics of Inkscape and start creating vector art with this free, open-source program. Note that Inkscape defaults to a visual bounding box, which includes stroke width in its calculation of the bounding box's dimensions. To change this, go to Edit > Preferences > Tools and select Geometric Bounding box. Keep in mind that Inkscape includes stroke width in its calculation of its bounding boxes. Check your units to confirm that they are what you intend for your project. You can group the object for better handling by selecting all parts and pressing If your object is not grouped yet, you can switch back to the selection tool by pressing.Select all the points you want to include by holding down the left mouse button and drawing a frame around your object. Select Edit paths by nodes and click on your object.Sometimes it is easier to just drag your workpiece out of the frame and then you can delete the rest. Note that this will separate every distinct element in your file, so if you’re importing text, this text may be separated by character, or even parts of inaccurately-rendered characters. For larger files, this can take a few seconds. Sometimes you need to do this more than one time until it looks like the screenshot below.
